First Time at Millers Pond: New Faces, The community came out, 11 games deep let's Go!

August 15, 2026 | Millers Pond Park | San Antonio, Texas

Pro Jump Jones made its first trip to Millers Pond, and the experience was well worth the drive.

Millers Pond is about 20 minutes from our home court at Lady Bird Johnson Park. When we arrived, the first thing that stood out was the scenery. The pond sitting behind the court looks more like a huge lake and gave us a beautiful background for the pictures and videos captured throughout the evening.

The basketball court was covered, the lights came on after 7:00 p.m., and everything was in place for a full evening of basketball. PJJ provided water, played music and recorded 11 games.

New Court, New Connections

Visiting a new court allowed us to meet many players we had never seen before.

That is an important part of the  Pro Jump Jones experience at different locations. Every court has its own regulars, personalities and basketball culture. Showing up as a community not only brings new competition to the court, but also allows us to meet players, learn their stories and introduce them to what PJJ is is known for.  Competitive Hoops, community respect and a genuine appreciation and love for the city of San Antonio.

We were invited to Millers Pond by a team that regularly plays there, and we made sure to give them the respect and credit. We took pictures and showed appreciation to a bunch of great guys who just want to hoop.

We also met a father-daughter duo and captured pictures of them together. Both of them can hoop. I saw that Dad was a facilitator and the daughter could finish the shot like a pro. Moments like that represent what Pro Jump Jones wants to share with the country about San Antonio. Basketball may bring everyone to the court, but its the people and relationships that make the experience valuable.

Familiar Faces Showed Up

Although this was PJJ’s first time at Millers Pond, we were not there alone.

Several players from Rainbow Hills pulled up and showed support. PJJ veterans also came out, played and took pictures with us. Seeing familiar faces at a new location made the evening feel connected to everything we have already built.

One of the biggest surprises was seeing our former PJJ 1v1 champion from three years ago return and run games with us. PJJ has years of history throughout San Antonio, so moments like this remind us why documenting the journey matters.

Players may disappear from the camera for a while, but the relationships and memories remain.

Eleven Games and Plenty of Competition

The runs were competitive, and we recorded 11 games throughout the evening.

One moment became more intense than the basketball itself when an argument broke out during a game. I stopped play, called leaders from both teams together and gave everyone a chance to settle the situation before continuing.

Competition comes with emotion, especially when players believe a call was missed or made too late. However, keeping the environment safe and respectful will always come first.

The goal is not to remove the passion from the game. The goal is to make sure that passion never becomes bigger than the people playing it.

Once everyone came together, we got things back under control and continued the run.

A Millers Pond Highlight Reaches 22,000 Views on IG

Before the blog The highlight block from Millers Pond had already reached more than 22,000 views on IG

The clip featured is a big defensive block followed by a late call that created plenty of conversation online. Some viewers agreed with the call, while others believed the block was clean.

That is basketball.

Different angles produce different opinions, and competitive moments will always create discussion. What cannot be questioned is the effort and intensity both players brought to the possession.

The response to that single play shows why these local games deserve to be documented. A moment that happened on a neighborhood court in San Antonio was seen and discussed by thousands of people.

A Drive Worth Making
Millers Pond gave us competitive games, beautiful scenery, new connections and another chapter for the Pro Jump Jones archive.

The 20-minute drive from LBJ was well worth it.

Thank you to the team that invited us, the Millers Pond regulars who welcomed us, the Rainbow Hills players who showed support and every PJJ veteran who came out.

This was our first visit but it may not be our last.
